Garodnick Visits Community Education Council Meeting to Push for Relief at P.S. 116
Council Member Garodnick attended a meeting of the District 2 Community Education Council to encourage the DOE officials present to incubate the new P.S. 281 a year before it opens in its permanent home in order to provide relief to the severely crowded P.S. 116.
After the DOE responded to a letter from a coalition of East Side elected officials by raising a number of difficulties with incubation, Council Member Garodnick said, “That’s not the vigorous problem-solving we were hoping for.” He is continuing to urge the DOE to engage in a community conversation with the P.S. 116 community, elected officials and affected kindergarten parents to find a solution.
